How to get earlier Lightning Lane return times

Your first Lightning Lane Multi Pass selections often land later in the day than you want. Earlier return times can open up as other guests change plans. Here is how advance selections work, how to look for a better time yourself, and how Standby can keep looking for you, starting days before your trip.

How advance Lightning Lane selections work

At Walt Disney World, guests staying at a Disney Resort hotel can currently buy Multi Pass and make selections up to seven days before arrival. Other guests can start three days before each park day. Booking opens at 7:00 AM Eastern Time.

You can hold up to three advance selections in one park. Popular attractions often have only later return times left by the time you book, so treat your first plan as a starting point.

Disney’s rules can change. Confirm the current details in My Disney Experience before you plan around them.

How to modify for an earlier return time yourself

  1. Open the selection in your plans

In My Disney Experience, find the Lightning Lane you want to improve and choose Modify Time.

  2. Compare the times offered

If an earlier return window is available, choose it. Your current selection stays in place until you confirm a new one.

  3. Check again later

Availability changes throughout the day and in the days before your visit, so one look is rarely the final answer.

This works, but it means checking again and again, and an earlier opening can disappear quickly.

How Standby finds earlier times before your trip

  1. Make your advance selections with Disney

Buy Multi Pass and book your initial selections in My Disney Experience. Standby does not make the initial 7:00 AM selections.

  2. Connect through Friends & Family

Link your party in Standby with your My Disney Experience linking code. Supported Multi Pass plans for today and the next seven days appear automatically. You never give Standby your Disney password.

  3. Turn on Watch Earlier

Choose a pass to improve. Standby looks for an earlier return time for the same party and attraction, starting up to seven days before your park day.

  4. Get notified when it moves

When Standby moves a pass earlier, you get a notification naming the park day. On the day itself, it keeps looking until your return window is 30 minutes away.

Days before your trip

Make your advance selections in My Disney Experience. Standby imports them and, with Watch Earlier on, looks for earlier return times up to seven days before your park day.

On your park day

New searches book eligible return times as they open up. Choose Earliest and Standby keeps looking for an earlier time until your return window is 30 minutes away.

From Standby booking records, July to October 2026. The typical move is the median across 50 passes Standby moved earlier. These are changes in return time, not time saved in line. Results vary, and earlier times are not guaranteed.

Before you rely on it.

Watch Earlier needs Booking Assist coverage for that park day, an active Friends & Family connection, and an eligible Walt Disney World Multi Pass attraction. New searches for rides you do not hold yet still wait for your park day. Earlier times depend on Disney availability and are never guaranteed. Check your confirmed plans in My Disney Experience.
